The Global Challenges Dinner

On March 28th, we hosted the second annual Global Challenges Dinner. It was an incredible opportunity, where I got to speak with many different members from the community. This of course was a bit nerve wracking, but really fun. By the end of the night, I had proposed my groups innovation, I engaged in many conversations about what food will be like in 2050 (i.e. meat made in labs), GMO’s and all the other innovations that have been addressed in our class.

I think one of the most important conversations that I had was with a Co-op board member. She was able to give me a Calgary grocery store’s opinion, and provided me with some feedback on how we should continue with the project. In summary, she said that we needed to make sure there was a transitional period for the grocery stores to adjust to the bylaw. Which was a great suggestion and has been included in our bylaw draft proposal.

Also at the dinner I had the privilege of delivering the concluding speech. This was such a great honour, and I felt that through this speech I was able to help empower the room to really listen to what we were saying. I really wanted to convey that this isn’t just a class for many of us, these innovations are things that we truly believe will be part of the solution for 2050.

All in all, the dinner was great! I hope that I can attend many more like it.
